I met Joseph and Helen Dundee Nelson in the early 1990’s. We became very good friends. Both experienced the Great Depression and World War II. Helen, a schoolteacher, and Joseph, a machinist working for a San Diego defense contractor, did not make a lot of money. They started life out dirt poor and worked hard for every dime they made. They lived a conservative life style, saved their money, and invested it wisely.
As a PDO, now Regent, I helped established the Joseph R. and Helen Dundee Nelson Foundation through the National Heritage Foundation. As a Certified Financial Planner®, I helped them with all of their financial plans. As an investment advisor for the Nelson Foundation, I have watched the Nelson Foundation grow to over $3,250,000 today.
In 2007, the following disbursements were made:

Total 2007 Disbursements: $142,200.00.
As I look back at what I helped the Nelsons accomplish with their life’s efforts, I can only smile. A school teacher and a machinist created a Legacy of Love. I count it one of the greatest blessings of my life just to have known them and to be able to call them my friends.
